Westminster social justice committee is sponsoring a workshop for our church members and friends, area faith communities, and social justice organizations on Saturday, April 1, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on Fighting White Supremacy in Rhode Island. The workshop is free, but donations will be gratefully received; lunch will be provided. Registration is required by clicking HERE.
With hate groups on the rise in Rhode Island, and members attempting to infiltrate school boards and committees, this timely workshop will provide ways to effectively respond in our community. The members of our congregation come from a wide geographic area, which provides us with a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on multiple Rhode Island communities.
Two facilitators from the Boston SURJ group (Showing Up for Racial Justice) will lead the workshop. Participants will gain a better understanding of Antifa as well as an appreciation of the white supremacist groups who are making inroads in Rhode Island in their attempt to impact policy and decisions in our towns and schools. Participants will learn a variety of effective ways to respond and resist what is happening in their own communities.
