Inspired, in part, by reading Michael Lewis’ The Undoing Project, I will look at some pretty basic topics: truth and the possibility of knowing, for starters. It’s important to remind ourselves that long before any nervous politician spouted the now well-worn phrase “Fake news!” the West has been asking itself questions about how we can know for sure. Some thinkers go so far as to suggest that what they’re calling “The Enlightenment Project” may be on its last legs.
Nicholas Boke has been involved with Unitarian Universalism for almost 50 years, having filled pulpits throughout New England and other parts of the country. He has served the First Universalist Parish of Chester, Vermont, for eight years. He also works as a free-lance writer, writing for ecoRI.org and occasionally providing op-ed pieces for the Providence Journal, as well as training teachers and community workers in the Middle East and Africa. He lives in Providence with his wife, Buffy, who recently retired as the minister of the Canton, MA, UU Church.
