Yearning to Be Free

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Indeed, there is perhaps no other word that has been used as a symbol of this country as the word, freedom. And yet it is clear that we are not “the land of the free” for all. It goes without saying that immigration is a complex subject, and thus, this morning, we will NOT be debating the subject from a policy perspective. However, as part of our exploration of inclusion, it is important to explore what a values-inspired Unitarian Universalist response may be to some of the pressing questions that face our country as our government seeks to put a line through Lady Liberty’s words.
