Love wants nothing in return. It is simply love, an unconditional gift that is shared without expectation. Seeing others transformed by your love is reward enough. Archbishop Desmond Tutu spoke to the very nature of love when he shared that “we are each made for goodness, love, and compassion. Our lives are transformed as much as the world is when we live with these truths.” Few have lived their lives with the passion, compassion, dedication, and energy as this man, Most people (like me) had no idea how devoted he was to the rights and wellbeing of LGBTQ people globally, and what a great sense of humor he had, particularly when he was in the presence of the Dalai Lama, one of his closest friends. We will celebrate the wonderful inspiring example his life was to all of us, and also share his unstoppable sense of humor, which he used often to speak of serious issues and just to stay humble and honest with himself.
